Inishfree

"Inishfree" is an autobiographical game based on myself revisiting my Grandmother's home island.

I produced this game to showcase the skills that I have gathered during my time studying at university. Through my six years of studying game design, I was able to create a full prototype and collaborate with two of my close friends that we're able to elevate my game with the use of audio design and iteration.

I started Inishfree in 2018 and continued the title into 2021 as my honours project for my final year at Abertay. With this game, I was able to graduate with a 2:1. The main thing I took away from my time developing was that I was glad my family liked it and other descendants found solace in my story. It made the whole process worth it and I look forward to continuing this prototype in the future.

Inishfree won the Dead Static Drive "Excellence in Narrative Design" award at the Abertay Digital Graduate Showcase.

At the current moment, Inishfree is still in development where I am working on it in my free time. I have plans to fully release the title for free, there is no date set in stone but I would ideally like to release the full finished game for sometime in 2023 or 2024.

Abertay Graduate Showcase 2021 - Award Giving

After submitting my honours project I was invited to a graduate showcase since I was nominated for the "Dead Static Drive for excellence in Narritave Design".  Here is a video of my award being

Inishfree - 2021

This is a walkthrough of the submitted honors project. For this project I delved deeper into the aspect of an autobiographical game and I changed the narrative and game feel to represent this shift in the games design.

At the current moment this is the most up to date version of the game and I plan on developing it further.

This cover was done by Sam Langan. I commissioned Sam for this work and I am beyond happy with the work he produced for this project.

Inishfree - 2020

In the summer of 2020 I deferred my module "Game Design Practice" where we encouraged to explore anvues of our course we wanted to explore further. Through this defferal I decided to change my original game idea to further iterate on Inishfree.
Through exploring different design ideas and mechanics I believe I not only iterated on "Inishfree" but I also grew as a designer. I was thankful to  have this project to focus through the start of COVID-19.

Inishfree - 2018

This is the first iteration of Inishfree. I did this project for the class, "Level Design and Scripting" in my 2nd year of University.  Due to life and other factors I created this prototype in three days. I wouldn't recommend producing a prototype in such a short amount of time but I am happy to look back on it as Inishfree's first iteration.
